Sample Test 1

Analysis of solid D

Test Procedure

You are provided with solid D. Carry out the tests below and write down your observations and inferences in the spaces provided.

  • (a) Using a metallic spatula, burn about one third of solid D on a non-luminous flame
  • (b) Place the remaining solid D in a clean boiling tube and add about 10cm3 of distilled water.
  • (c) Divide the resulting solution into 3 portions T1, T2 & T3.
    • (i) To the 1st portion, add all the solid hydrogen carbonate provided
    • (ii) To the 2nd portion, add 2 to 3 drops of acidified potassium dichromate (VI) solution and warm
    • (iv) To the 3rd portion, add 2 to 3 drops of acidified potassium manganate (vii) solution.
